As the body of legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika arrived from Mumbai on Monday, the 30-km stretch of road from the airport to his home in Nizarapar turned into a sea of humanity with thousand of fans turning up to pay their homage.
At the airport,Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and Governor J B Patnaik received the body, which was then taken in a huge procession to his home, from where it was later shifted to Judges Field for public viewing. The cremation will take place Tuesday, with his only son set to arrive from the US to perform the last rites.
The venue of the cremation was today changed to the Gauhati University campus,on the banks of the Brahmaputra, with the university offering a huge plot for the last rites.
Besides working at the Gauhati University for a couple of years,Hazarika had also written its anthem.
