A trader opened fire at a group of people that allegedly attacked his brother, injuring three,in the Jaripatka locality on Tuesday. Three others were also injured in a scuffle between the two groups.
The trader,Prakash Kalyani, had made headlines in 1998 when he reportedly shot three alleged robbers near his medicine shop. He was felicitated by then PWD Minister Nitin Gadkari for bravery and the felicitation had attracted a lot of criticism.
Police said the incident occurred when Sushil Kalyani,an advocate, was taking pictures of a new structure being constructed by another trader Thakurdas Jethwani. Kalyani said the construction would be a hindrance to traffic. Jethwani objected to his taking photographs, leading to an argument and the alleged assault on Sushil. Soon,Sushils brothers Prakash and Rajendra reached the spot with supporters and the fisticuff continued between the three brothers and Jethwanis son Kishore,son-in-law Akash Badlani and employees Thansingh Thakre and Satish Sadhwani. Prakash is then said to have fired five rounds, Inspector Rajesh Unawane of Jaripatka police staion said.
