The BJP Friday said former cabinet secretary K M Chandrasekhar’s revelations before the JPC probing the 2G scam justified its demand that the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister be called for deposition as witnesses.

“The statement of Chandrasekhar to the JPC once again very eloquently justified BJP’s demand that for any fair probe the PM and Finance Minister must be summoned and must answer queries on 2G spectrum allocation issue,” said BJP member of the JPC Ravi Shankar Prasad. “In this case, the financial statement prepared by Chandrasekhar, where he suggested Rs 35,000 crore of spectrum fee,was prepared at PM’s instance. The PM has to answer why he did not accept and why he and the Finance Minister agreed for Rs 1,658 crore as fee which is a clear case of enormous loss to public exchequer,” he said.

He said the Congress’s attempt to thwart the demand to summon the PM and the Finance Minister means the government is ready to allow the country to “derive its own conclusion”. “It is truly surprising and shocking that most legitimate demand for PM’sa deposition before JPC is denied. The country will derive its own conclusion,” Prasad said.

The BJP,which stalled the monsoon session of Parliament demanding cancellation of coal block allotments, also alleged a “huge scam” in process undertaken by the government for de-allocation of coal blocks.
