Electricity wire falls on bus,8 killed

The condition of two of the injured is stated to be critical.

Eight persons died and 15 others suffered injuries when the private bus in which they were sitting caught fire after a high tension electricity wire fell on it in Fatehpur’s Jahanabad town on Tuesday. The condition of two of the injured is stated to be critical. Both have been referred to a Kanpur hospital. The police have ruled out any foul play.

Fatehpur SP Rajendra Singh said that there were around 35 persons inside the bus. Passengers sitting near doors and windows managed to escape while others got trapped inside and suffered burns,said the SP.

The bus which caught fire runs between Jahanabad and Amauli,about 30 kilometres away. Most of the victims were from Jahanabad,said a police officer.

Fatehpur Circle Officer Anil Kumar Singh said the dead included two children,four women and two men.

According to the police,at around 4.45 pm when the bus was waiting at Jahanabad to pick up passengers,an overhead electric wire fell on it,leading to a fire.

The locals informed the police and the fire department. Since the victims were mostly local residents,their family members arrived and took them to hospital.
