A worker of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI),which is affiliated with the CPM,was killed and several offices of various parties were attacked on Thursday as normal life came to a standstill in Kerala after the CPM called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh in protest against the arrest of its senior leader P Jayarajan in a murder case.
The victim,local DYFI leader T Manoj Kumar,had sustained injury in a clash between the CPM and the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) in Kasargode. He died in hospital.
Another CPM worker was seriously injured in the incident. The clash occurred when CPM workers were returning after a protest march at Uduma in the district.
IUML general secretary K PA Majeed said his party had no role in the death of Kumar. The CPM has called for another strike in Kasargode district on Friday to protest the death of the DYFI worker.

Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishan said 200-odd violent incidents were reported from across the state on Thursday. As many as 57 Congress offices,18 IUML office and 22 police stations were attacked. Some of the party offices were either torched or vandalised by the assailants. Seventy policemen were injured.
Meanwhile,CPM legislator T V Rajesh,who was made an accused in the murder case of IUML worker Abdul Shukoor,moved the Kerala High Court for anticipatory bail. He is the 39th accused in the case.
