Durga Shakti Nagpal’s decision unjust,won’t reinstate: Shivpal Yadav
The minister denies that Nagpal was suspended for clamping down on illegal sand mining.
Taking a tough stand,Uttar Pradesh minister Shivpal Yadav Wednesday ruled out revoking the suspension of Durga Shakti Nagpal.
Nagpal was shunted out as sub divisional magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar for demolishing the wall of an under-construction mosque. The government claims her action had flared up communal tension but many believe she was punished for going after a sand mining mafia protected by senior politicians.
It was an unjust decision of Nagpal. She personally went to Kadalpur where the mosque was being constructed and ordered demolition of the wall. If any official indulges in such lapses,he or she will have to face the music. Her suspension is an administrative decision and there is no need to withdraw it, Shivpal said.
The minister denied that Nagpal was suspended for clamping down on illegal sand mining. Mining has nothing to do with her suspension. No mining is done in a 25 km radius of Kadalpur. She was suspended for demolishing the wall of mosque, he claimed.
Shivpal was reminded that his cousin,SP general secretary Ramgopal Yadav,had termed Nagpals suspension as wrong. He retorted,The action has been taken by the chief minister.Sarkar Hai Hum. Listen to me and no one else.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav echoed Shivpal and accused IAS officers of indulging in politics over Nagpals suspension.
If action was not taken after the wall of the mosque was demolished,western UP would have witnessed communal riots, Mulayam reportedly told a closed door meeting of the partys state executive.
But IAS officers are doing politics. If government takes any action,will they oppose it? Do char per karyavahi karna bahut zaroori hai, Mulayam reportedly said in presence of chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and several ministers.
The states IAS Association had met the chief secretary Monday and demanded that Nagpal be reinstated because,they argued,she had been suspended without being heard out and that her action had not led to any communal strife. Ab ye sarkar ke khilaf khadey ho jayengey? Mulayam said of the officers.
IAS body to approach Centre
The Indian Civil and Administrative Service Association has decided to raise the issue of Durga Shakti Nagpals suspension with MoS for Personnel,Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy.
We will raise the issue of Durga and other such arbitrary transfers because they set wrong examples for other states, the associations secretary Sanjay Bhoosreddy said,but added,The government has the right to suspend an officer after following due procedure. All we want is that the set law should be followed.
He said UP has suspended 104 IAS officers,or a fourth of its IAS cadre,in the past 20 years.
