Aluminium maker Anil Agarwal-owned Vedanta Alumina on Tuesday launched an initiative to promote the culture and tradition of Dongria Kondh tribals. The company on Tuesday helped launch Niyamgiri ti Rani,the first-ever Kui music album.
The Dongria Kondhs are one of the primitive tribal inhabitants of Lanjigarh,in the district of Kalahandi. Kui,the traditional language of the Dongria Kondhs,has a rich history that the elders of the community pass on from generations through their folk songs and stories.
The album comprising eight Kui songs has its music composed by Oriya music director Manmath Mishra. The songs have been penned by Gopal Melaka and sung by Jitu Jakasika,Ramesh Kulesika,Gopal Melaka,Stephen and Biraji,Dongria natives of Lanjigarh amp; Muniguda.
The Dongarias are now planning to release a video album followed by live performances across India to promote the culture of the natives of Lanjigarh.
