Discom admits to photos of ministers on bills; says will remove them

The district election office of East Delhi has issued a showcause notice to BSES in this regard.

Power discom BSES Yamuna on Thursday admitted that a sheet featuring the photographs of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Power Minister Haroon Yusuf was attached to its electricity bills,but said it was not done at the behest of any political party or leader.

The district election office of East Delhi has issued a showcause notice to BSES in this regard. In its reply to the district election officer (east),the discom said they were removing the pictures from the bills with immediate effect. “In their reply to the notice,they have said they have done it on their own and not at the behest of any political party. They also said that they are removing the pictures from the bills immediately,” DEO (East) Krishna Mohan Uppu said.

Districts start ordering CCTV cameras

A few districts in the capital have started ordering CCTV cameras. “Around 634 polling stations have been identified as critical and the list will be continuously updated once political parties announce their candidates. At these stations,the proceedings will be video-graphed and there will be micro-observers who will directly report to the Election Commission of India,” Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev said. There were 264 critical polling stations in the 2008 Assembly polls.
