India did not agreed to any legally-binding commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions at the Durban Climate Change conference,Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan told Parliament on Friday.

India,Natarajan said, had already announced that it would cut emissions up by 20-25 per cent by 2020 as compared to 2005 levels and that stand did not changed.

“This goal is relative in nature and allows India’s emissions to grow as the economy grows,” she said. She said the decision of the Durban meet “does not imply India has to take binding commitments to reduce its emissions in absolute terms in 2020.” India, she added, successfully resisted a move by some countries to delete the option regarding “legal outcome” and only agreed to replace it with a similar expression: “agreed outcome with legal force”.

Lucknow: Under attack from Opposition parties for corruption in her government,CM Mayawati on Friday said she had inherited corruption in her legacy but was doing her best to root it out. She denied that her relatives had benefited from her government.

In a statement, read out on her behalf by Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh,Mayawati dismissed the charges as “bizarre and baseless”. Since the Opposition had no issue against her government, they were levelling allegations against her relatives as being part of a conspiracy, although she had always kept family away, she said.

Maya has faced serious allegations of corruption in NRHM,MGNREGS,land allotments in Noida and several other matters.
