‘Dhoble wrongly detained German women from pub’

A Delhi-based businessman has alleged that Mumbai ACP Vasant Dhoble had on March 30 “wrongly” detained four German women

A Delhi-based businessman has alleged that Mumbai ACP (Social Service Branch) Vasant Dhoble had on March 30 “wrongly” detained four German women from the Voodoo Pub in south Mumbai’s Colaba area. Releasing a video as proof of his allegations,Tehseen Poonawalla told reporters that contrary to media reports, the foreign nationals were not sex workers.

“Dhoble and his team had told the media the girls were sex workers. However,in the video, they can be seen pleading they had done nothing wrong. Even if they were indeed who the police portray them to be,how is it that they were released in a few hours? From what I learnt, even the German Consulate was not informed,” alleged Poonawalla.

Poonawalla, who refers to himself as a political analyst, said he has petitioned the National Women’s Commission to look into the matter.

In the 1.5-minute video,a police team is seen outside the pub. Four girls who seem local residents come out, faces covered, and hurriedly get into a waiting police van. Four other girls, the German nationals being referred to by Poonawalla, follow. The policemen tell them to get into the van. One of the German girls protests saying they did nothing wrong, and that they visited the pub as it was mentioned in their travel guide.

The video ends abruptly without any clarity on whether the girls were indeed made to travel in the van.

DCP (Enforcement) B G Shekhar said the allegations against them were baseless. When contacted,Dhoble refused to comment.
