Acting for the first time in an election-related issue, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has suspended licences of two pilots for making an unauthorised sortie in poll-bound Nagaland earlier this year which was intercepted by a team of the Election Commission for carrying Rs 1 crore in cash.

The DGCA has taken action on the complaint filed by Election Expenditure Monitoring cell of the EC after its surveillance team seized the cash from a helicopter allegedly being used by a candidate of Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) after it landed at Assam Rifles helipad in Longleng district of the state on February 16.
