The Punjab Police have issued an advisory to all dera chiefs that they should inform the police before undertaking any foreign tour. With reports of Punjab militants regrouping abroad, mainly in Europe, the police want to alert their counterparts in different countries through the Ministry of External Affairs to secure the lives of dera chiefs.

Sources said the state police had increased vigil and stepped up the security of deras in Punjab after the Austrian police foiled an attempt on the life of G S Dhillon, chief of Radha Soami sect, last week. The Vienna police had initially arrested four persons, but let off three of them later. The arrested man is a member of banned outfit Khalistan Zindabad Force,it is learnt.

The Punjab Police received inputs from central intelligence agencies some time ago that militant organisations in Europe had held meetings and were planning to attack dera leaders.
