After withdrawing his bail petition from the Delhi High Court today in the case of his alleged hate speech against Muslims,BJP candidate Varun Gandhi is preparing to court arrest in Pilibhit from where he will contest the Lok Sabha elections.

“I will court arrest tomorrow (on Saturday),for sure. I can’t talk much now…,” he told The Indian Express late on Friday. Sources close to him said that Gandhi “would make two statements” before he courted arrest — “that he was ready to go jail for the swabhiman (self-esteem) of the Hindus’. And that this didn’t mean that he was against any particular community”.

Two FIRs were registered against Gandhi for the alleged anti-Muslim speeches that he made in the district early this month, something that also earned the BJP a stern advisory from the Election Commission.

“I’m sitting in Aonla (from where she is contesting),I have no idea when he’s going to court arrest,” said his mother and BJP MP Maneka Gandhi.

It’s not clear whether the district administration will arrest him. In the morning,Gandhi will go on a “door-to-door” campaign in Pilibhit. Senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra said party president Rajnath Singh had asked him to be present when he (Varun) courts arrest”.

Additional Director General of Police Brij Lal said the local administration will decide on what steps to take. “Wait till tomorrow,” said Pilibhit SP Prakash D. BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani will address public meetings in Maharajganj and Kushinagar tomorrow.
