A day after an inquiry by a Supreme Court panel found retired judge A K Ganguly prima facie guilty of unwelcome behaviour and unwelcome conduct of sexual nature with a lawyer who interned with him in December last year, the Delhi Police asked the Le Meridien hotel to provide CCTV footage of the day of the incident.
DCP (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi said: We have made a verbal request to the Le Meridien hotel authorities. A formal written request will also be made.
On November 6,the intern from the National University of Juridical Sciences, writing on a blog which was later recorded by Legally India website publishing editor Kian Ganz, alleged sexual harassment by Ganguly at the hotel on December 24,2012. Ganz later interviewed the intern and has been in touch with her.
On Friday, police officers said they will also speak to hotel employees in connection with the incident. An officer said an FIR will be registered only after the interns statement is recorded. On November 14,former Delhi University Law Faculty professor S N Singh had lodged a complaint at the Tilak Marg police, seeking an FIR against Justice Ganguly.
On November 18,the police sent her an email, asking her to record her statement. An email was also sent to Ganz, asking him to provide details of the intern. Ganz wrote back to police saying he had spoken to her and,in his assessment, she was not interested in making a statement since she had already deposed before the SC. Two later, she said she was not interested in participating in a parallel process. On Thursday, police again wrote to her to record her statement. She is yet to respond to the email.
