A head constable of Delhi Police was shot dead and a colleague injured when unidentified men in a car opened fire at them in a suspected incident of road rage at Meeruts Kekarkhera locality around 5.15 pm on Tuesday.
Head constable Sanjeev suffered bullet injury in chest and died on the spot,according to the police. Constable Sachin who was with Sanjeev in their WagonR car suffered bullet injury on his knee. His condition was stated to be critical. Two other occupants,constable Vivek and Pankaj,Sanjeevs friend,were unhurt.
The policemen were in Meerut tracking auto-lifters. They had gone there to do recce of auto-lifters, said an official of Delhi Police. It appears to be a case of road rage.
Station Officer of Kekarkhera police station Bhagwat Singh said the constables had heated arguments with the assailants coming from the opposite direction in a Santro. Both were blocking each others path. After the argument,the occupants of the Santro opened fire on the constables and escaped,said the police.
The constables belonged to Special Staff of the South District. Sanjeev was shot at on the right side of his chest while Sachin recieved a bullet in his knee, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chhaya Sharma.
Sanjeev is survived by his wife and two children. He is a native of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Trader held for slapping magistrate
NEW DELHI: An Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate at Saket court was injured in an alleged incident of road rage in Southeast Delhis Lajpat Nagar area on Monday evening as Amit Khanna,a handicrafts businessman,slapped the magistrate. Police have arrested the accused. A case has been registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station.
