It an instantly recognisable symbol and chances are you have spotted it more commonly as a tattoo or a logo design. In fact,a Victoria Secrets show would be incomplete without the Angel Wings. Presenting angels of the now was Delhi-based designer Namrata Joshipura with her collection Wings of Desire that closed Day One of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2013.
With a huge pair of illuminated wings forming the perfect frame at the start of the runway, the designer made her theme clear. Though she would like us to believe her angels were neither dark nor light (as the collection note read),the darker side prevailed with the deep colour palette. From midnight black to black with a metallic sheen, grey and gold to deep wine,it was a sinful, almost sensual line-up of hues.
The silhouettes,in the designers signature style, were contemporary and incorporated leather jacket dresses, skirts, cropped jackets and pants. What stood out, however, was the use of leather and modern fabrics such as neoprene, polytex and glazed microfabric.
Adding drama to the collection were the angel wings embellishments. The collection showcased Joshipuras expertise in texturing fabrics in a subtle yet noticeable way. Fine leather strips were appliqued to create the wing patterns while surface textures were created through embroideries and trimmed with leather. A long dress in metallic taupe gold with the wings almost working their way up,entwining the fabric was a stunner. The latter half of the collection was high in glamour and Joshipuras style of sheathing was hard to miss.
