Following clashes between two communities,the district administration on Wednesday imposed curfew in Zanskar. Three persons,including a senior officer,were injured in these clashes.
Tension was brewing in Zanskar in Kargil district after some Buddhist families living in Padum area converted to Islam. Buddhist leaders objected to the conversion and asked Muslim leaders not to accept these families. Senior officials visited the area and met the families. The police are trying to ascertain if the conversion was voluntary or with some motive.
Police spokesperson in Srinagar said,The situation is under control and the police have taken cognisance of clashes between the two communities. He said that three persons,including a Tehsildar,were injured in the clashes. The injured officer has been shifted to Srinagar for treatment. More reinforcements have been dispatched from Srinagar to assist the administration, he said,adding that the situation is being monitored by civil and police administration who are camping in the area.
The district administration has arranged meeting between members of Buddhist Association and Muslim organisations.
