The Kerala High Court on Thursday sought explanation from the state and the Centre on the Italian governments plea to quash the murder case against its two navy marines arrested for killing two Indian fishermen. A magistrate court in Kollam, meanwhile, extended the police custody of the arrested marines till March 1.
The magistrate court, where the accused were produced in the afternoon after their three-day police custody ended, however, allowed the presence of the Italian governments representatives during the police search on the ship for the weapons.
Meanwhile,External Affairs Minister S M Krishna on Thursday said any decision on how to pursue the case against the marines should be left to the Centre and Kerala government. That’s a call Government of India and Kerala government has to take, Krishna said when asked whether the case should be handled as per Indian law.
