Cop vehicle knocks down three in Siwan village

Three persons were killed after being reportedly knocked down by a police vehicle at a village under Basantpur police station in Siwan on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 2 pm when a police team reached Madarpur village to prevent a mob justice incident. The police had information that the villagers,who had caught hold of a woman they suspected to be a child lifter,were planning to kill her.

A team from Basantpur police rushed to the village and took the woman in custody to protect her from the mob. Over 100 villagers protested the police action and had a scuffle with them. The police fired in the air to disperse the crowd but some started chasing the police vehicle. According to reports,some villagers also came in front of the vehicle.

Three villagers,identified as Kapildev Prasad (70),Venu Ram (60) and Rajkishore Roy (25),were reportedly knocked down by the speeding police Jeep. They died on their way to the hospital. Over a dozen others were also injured. An assistant sub-inspector,Manoj Kumar,also suffered serious injuries in the scuffle.

In a separate incident,three traders were shot dead in Munger on Wednesday evening over business rivalry. According to the police,the traders were killed in an exchange of fire.
