A petition, seeking contempt proceedings against CM Mamata Banerjee for her alleged comment that judgments are delivered for money, was Monday withdrawn from the Supreme Court since an identical case is pending in the Calcutta High Court.

“We can’t allow parallel proceedings to go on. There is an identical matter before the Calcutta HC and the court is seized of the case. You can implead in that proceedings or wait for the outcome of the HC proceedings,” the SC said.

The court expressed reluctance to keep the plea “alive” awaiting the HC order and told petitioner to withdraw it.
