The Chandigarh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission on Thursday ordered a six-month jail term for Karl Slym,MD,Tata Motors and Ashish Mohan Gupta,MD,Hind Motors for failing to comply with its orders.

The Commission has also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 each and issued non-bailable warrants against Slym and Gupta.

Directions were passed Thursday on a petition filed by senior lawyer Manmohan Lal Sarin. The petitioner had purchased a Tata Nano car last year. A few months after the purchase, the car was sent to Chandigarh branch of Hind Motors for repair, but were not up to the mark. Sarin then lodged a complaint with the commission.

The consumer forum had passed orders dated July 6,2012,pertaining to replacement of faulty parts of the vehicle and extension of warranty, which the managing directors of Tata Motors and Hind Motors failed to comply with. So an application was moved by the complainant for execution of orders. “The complainant had not received any intimation from the opposite parties that they had complied with the orders dated July 6,2012,” the order read.
