Congress compares Modi govt to Nazi rule

On the backfoot over its Gujarat unit advertising Narendra Modi as “a master organiser and astute election strategist” on Republic Day along with other chief ministers of the state

On the backfoot over its Gujarat unit advertising Narendra Modi as “a master organiser and astute election strategist” on Republic Day along with other chief ministers of the state, the Congress on Wednesday sought to dispel confusion over its stance against the BJP Chief Minister by describing his regime as akin to the Nazis.

“I am not trying to draw any parallel, but the Nazis also built autobahns (German expressways) but what defined the Nazi regime wasn’t those autobahns. It was Auschwitz (concentration camp). It was Treblinka (externation camp). It was ghettos (where Jews were forced to live) that defined their rule. What is going to define the BJP government in Gujarat is the inaction and the culpability in the Gujarat carnage,” Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said. He was responding to questions regarding Modi drawing praise from Congress quarters in the year of Gujarat assembly elections.

Tewari’s remarks came in the backdrop of a clutch of apparent instances of self-goals by Congress members — first an advertisement issued by party’s state unit appeared praising Modi and later Delhi CM’s Sheila Dikshit’s remark that appeared in appreciation of Modi.
