Cong: Chouhans like Reddy brothers

The Congress Sunday got all its state satraps on one platform on Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s home turf and came up with a new slogan,“Reddy brothers in Bellary,Chouhan brothers in Budhni”

The Congress Sunday got all its state satraps on one platform on Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s home turf and came up with a new slogan,“Reddy brothers in Bellary,Chouhan brothers in Budhni”,while accusing the Chief Minister and his brother of indulging in illegal mining.

Nasrullaganj, where the Opposition flexed its muscles at a large gathering,is also part of Leader of Opposition Sush-ma Swaraj’s Lok Sabha constituency. AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh during his recent visit to Jabalpur had alleged that Swaraj and illegal mining go together. On Sunday,he came up with this slogan drawing a parallel between Reddy and Chouhan brothers,a reference to the alleged involvement of the CM’s elder brother Narendra,a school teacher,in illegal sand mining on the banks of Narmada.

Union ministers Kamal Nath and Jyotiraditya Scindia, senior leaders Satyavrat Chaturvedi and Suresh Pachauri,Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh and PCC chief Kantilal Bhuria were present in the rally organised to project a united front to ward off criticism of factionalism ahead of the Assembly elections. Most speakers targeted the CM and alleged that if illegal mining was so rampant in his constituency, the state of affairs in the rest of the state could only be worse. The Opposition had listed the issue in its no-trust motion that could not be debated in the Assembly and insisted that a sub-divisional magistrate, who had issued notices to claim royalty of Rs 490 crore, was transferred at the instance of the CM’s family.

Questioning the state government’s claim of supplying round the clock electricity in each village across 50 districts,Scindia claimed he had toured 35 districts and not one village had 24-hour electricity supply. He said the state was not ruled by Chouhan but by (Sudhir) Sharma and (Dilip) Suryavanshi. Sharma is a BJP leader accused of involvement in illegal mining and Suryavanshi is a real estate tycoon. Scindia also claimed that whenever MP was not under Congress rule, atrocities on Dalits, tribal and minorities had increased. Digvijaya alleged that the CM had sold “one Rajya Sabha seat” to Chaudhary Rakesh Singh, the Bhind MLA who defected to the BJP.
