The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has terminated the services of constable Balwinder Singh Rezvi who opened fire in Naroda Gam area of Ahmedabad on Tuesday night,injuring eight persons including colleagues and passers-by. The CISF has also begun a departmental inquiry into the incident.
Rezvi,posted at the 2002 riots witness protection camp at Naroda Gam,had gone on a shooting spree in the Old Police Station area. The police said he fired around 30 rounds from an INSAS rifle. The Ahmedabad police with the help of CISF officials and Quick Response Team overpowered Rezvi after a two-hour operation.
Camp in-charge CISF Commandant S M Singh said,We have terminated Balwinder from CISF with immediate effect. A departmental inquiry has begun against him by DIG Y M Sharma.
The police said after questioning Rezvi on Tuesday night that he was angry with his senior officers as they did not sanction him leave.
While preliminary reports suggested Rezvi was drunk,Inspector C P Patel said,We had immediately sent him for a medical test and the primary reports showed he was not under any intoxication. The police have registered a case.
