It was an unusual location,no question about it. Sialba Majri,20 kilometres from Chandigarh, was a curious place to hold a press conference for Imagine TVs new show titled Desi Girl. The show,an adaptation of Simple Life, will showcase eight city-bred models competing to go as rural as possible to win the show. To show their intentions. the eight contestants were given a task to perform. They had to catch as many chickens as possible from inside a pen in two minutes. While most contestants on the show such as Sambhavna Seth,Kashmera Shah,Roshni Chopra,Monica Bedi,Ishitta Arun and Aushima Sawhney managed to catch a chicken or two with relative ease,Anmol Singh and Rucha Gujarati struggled to hold their own and had to be given chickens to hold to pose for the shutterbugs. It was a novel sight trying to see the two contestants run around in circles while shrieking and shouting to be let away from the pen and the task. Suffice to say, their chances on the show look quite bleak.
The perfect bahu
Like earlier,Pallavi Subhash is seen as the typical Indian bahu once again in Godh Bharai. Says Pallavi,When I was approached for this serial,I was a little confused. But I realised that Sphere Origins, who are the producers, are one of the best in the business. Their serials are unique and the plot usually does not deviate from the main issue. So I was confident that Godh Bharai would be different. I also really liked my character Aastha Agnihotris graph. In fact,it is very similar to that of Gauri, which I had played in Karam Apna Apna.
Pallavi, though is hopeful of playing diverse roles. Right now,she is looking forward to her appearance in Aahat. She will be seen in two episodes of the horror show. Im really excited about it. I have already shot for the promos that star five leading ladies from popular serials across channels.
A strict rule is being followed on the sets of Laagi Tujh Se Lagan, which is aired on Colors. The cast and crew has to desist from using cellphones while at work and be kept on silent mode. Anyone whose cell rings has to cough up a fine of Rs 500 to 1000 depending on who the actor is. If its a production person the fine is between Rs 50 to 250. Recently,Aashkas Garodias cell rang – she plays Kalavati – and Vinay Rohrra who is playing Bajirao noticed it immediately and demanded that all the actors be treated to ice-cream. Sporting person that she is,Aashka after paying a fine of Rs 1200 treated everyone with Mango Dolly ice-cream.
UTV Big Switch
Having adopted a slum in Nehru Nagar last year as part of the Big Switch Connect Phase, wherein UTV Bindass spread awareness about hygiene and sanitation, the channel has now announced the second phase of this initiative. It is the Effective Usage of Water campaign, which has Urvashi Dholakia lending her support to the programme. The channel has partnered with BMC official A Patne,Assistant Engineer,Solid Waste Management Department,K-West Municipal Ward and NGO United Way of Mumbai to take forward this initiative. Special skits are being performed by the theatrical group IDEA (Ideal Drama & Entertainment Academy ) to carry the message to the slum-dwellers. Says Nikhil Gandhi,Business Head,UTV Bindass,Big Switch Connect as a concept has been a sincere effort to address issues that the slum-dwellers face. In this year-long initiative we adopt a slum and arrange for improvement activities on a quarterly basis and spreads awareness and further monitor the progress closely. Our key messaging this quarter is Effective usage of water ,takes upon the need to educate slum dwellers on the appropriate usage of this indispensable necessity.
Twist in the tale
At a press conference held in Delhi to announce the fifth season of Indian Idol,Anu Malik was conspicious by his absence. There were rumours floating around that Malik was unhappy with his pay structure and role in the show being reduced. The composer recorded a video to make up for his absence where he specifically asked the media in Delhi to grill composer Salim Merchant. This is the first time Salim is judging any reality show and I saw his twisted streak of mind while we were recording the auditions. He has a knack of not giving straight answers so I request the gathering to specifically ask Salim some tricky questions and see how he answers, Anu said. The message gave the media in Delhi, who had waited over two years for Indian Idol to come to their city, the perfect weapon to assail Salim. Remarkably,Salim managed to keep his peace.
WE hear that love is blossoming on the sets of Pratigya. The protagonist,Arahaan Behl, has been getting real cosy with Avantika Hundal, who plays his on-screen sister-in-law. Arahaan is often seen hanging around Avantika and he even makes it a point to drop her home after the shoot everyday.
