Chautala plea to extend bail rejected, asked to surrender by Sept 17

The court of Justice Siddhartha Mridul dismissed the plea for further extension of Chautalas interim bail.

Admitted to Medanta Medicity Hospital for heart problems in May,INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala was on Friday directed to surrender before the Tihar Jail authorities within 10 days by the Delhi High Court. The order came after a medical board certified that he was no longer in need of hospitalisation.

Chautala, who was convicted in January and sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in the illegal recruitment of over 3,000 primary school teachers in Haryana schools in 1999-2000,was granted interim bail for his pacemaker implant surgery on May 21. The High Court had ordered the Director of AIIMS to constitute a medical board consisting of doctors from AIIMS,RML,GB Pant and other hospitals to monitor Chautalas medical reports.

The court of Justice Siddhartha Mridul dismissed the plea for further extension of Chautalas interim bail after the medical board reported that he was no longer in need of constant medical supervision.
