Chairman of the JPC looking into 2G spectrum allocation P C Chacko on Monday said he was prepared to take amendments suggested by members in the form of dissent notes but was not ready to alter the text of the draft report.

“I am willing for a detailed discussion on each of the 10 chapters. The text can’t be changed. The Opposition’s amendments can be in the form of dissent notes. Let the two (draft and the dissent notes) be presented so that Parliament is aware of the two views.”

Chacko had earlier said amendments could be considered if Opposition members convinced him of the need for the same. However, his latest position is normal procedure. Any member is free to give his note of dissent over a report of a committee. A BJP member, when asked, told The Indian Express,“Our expression of no-confidence in Chacko’s chairmanship of JPC is pending with the Speaker Meira Kumar. We had already rejected his entire draft. Where is the question of giving dissent notes?”
