The police in Thrissur district on Monday arrested a man who allowed his nine-year-old son to drive a Ferrari as his birthday gift. Charged with cruelty to child as per Juvenile Justice Act and as a car owner allowing a person to drive without driving license under the Motor Vehicle Act,the arrested businessman,Muhammed Nisham, was later granted bail.
According to the police,Nisham had allowed his son Ishan to drive his Ferrari car on April 5 within the compound of Shoba City,an integrated township-cum-apartment complex in Thrissur. The issue had created widespread protest in the cyber world after a video of Ishans feat behind the steering was uploaded on the YouTube. The police got an alert through the district cyber cell, which after watching the video, decided to register a case. The video, shot by Nisham, was uploaded on April 10.
Nisham is the managing director of King Beedi, apart from having business ventures in the Gulf.
Although the boy had driven the costly car along the private road,we have decided to register a case considering that the same road was used by others in the apartment complex. The vehicle was released with the condition that it would be produced before the court whenever required, said Circle Inspector P C Bijukumar. Ishans mother Amal Nisha said they never expected the issue would turn into a controversy.
We had promised him to give the key of Ferrari as his birthday gift. Although several others had criticised the incident as very dangerous,we were confident that he would easily manage Ferrari. She said Ishan has been learning driving since the age of six. He used to sit in the lap of his father and manage the steering. In the last three years,he has tried driving costly cars, including Bentley,BMW,Benz,Jaguar. We would continue to allow him to drive in a deserted area, where people dont notice us, she said.
