UP Police Sunday registered an FIR against BSP’s Muzaffarnagar MP Kadir Rana and two MLAs for their alleged inflammatory speeches at a public meeting organised in the wake of communal violence at Kawal village of the district on August 27 that started after the murder of three persons.

The FIR comes a day after former minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Dharamvir Baliyan, party’s district president Ajit Rathi and 10 other political activists were arrested when they tried to visit the village. Police booked Rana and MLAs Noor Saleem Rana of Charthawal and Jameel Ahmed of Meerapur, both in Muzaffarnagar, under Section 341,153-A and violation of section 144 of the CrPC.

Apart from the trio, the FIR mentions 600 unidentified people. No one has been arrested.

According to a complaint lodged with the police, the incident took place when one Gaurav of Malikpura village was returning home along with his two woman cousins. After one Shahnawaj of Kawal village allegedly passed lewd remarks,Gaurav objected to it and an altercation broke out.

Gaurav left and returned after a few minutes along with his cousin Sachin, also from Malikpura village. Both allegedly attacked Shahnawaj with knives. While locals rushed Shahnawaj to hospital, others caught hold of Sachin and Gaurav and lynched them. Meanwhile,Shahnawaj succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

Muzaffarnagar Circle Officer Jagat Ram Joshi said they had not found any evidence, which showed that the incident occurred because of alleged harassment of girls. The police, according to the CO,have found that Gaurav and Sachin entered into an argument with Shahnawaj over a trivial issue. Following intervention of villagers,Gaurav and Sachin left the place, but returned with their associates and attacked Shahnawaj. While the duo were trying to escape, the locals managed to catch Gaurav and Sachin and beat them to death.

On a complaint filed by Gaurav’s uncle Ravinder, the police have registered a case against seven persons at Jansath police station while Shahnawaj’s father has named eight persons in the killing of his son. The CO said one Furkaan has been arrested in the double murder case.
