To rein the misuse of social media and strengthen cyber security in wake of recent snooping reports by US’s National Security Agency the working group consisting of DGP observed that “foreign content providers need to be brought under the Indian law.” Intelligence Bureau director Syed Asif Ibrahim also highlighted the limitations faced by security agencies while accessing the information on social media. “…It was observed by the working group that while in India, security forces were handicapped with technical and procedural constrains, foreign agencies have unfettered access to social media,” he said. Ibrahim also said,“Steps are being taken to secure our systems…In order to surmount these challenges effectively,…emphasis is also placed on indigenously developed hardware, data encryption technology and communication platforms available in public and private domain.”
