Singapore: A man in Singapore allegedly raped his neighbour’s Indonesian help twice and then tried to kill her by throwing her out of the window of a second-storey flat. The man forced his way into the empty flat,raped the help,cut her with a pair of scissors and tried to strangle her before throwing her off the flat,the High Court was told on Tuesday. The maid,26,survived.

4.0 earthquake in Missouri shakes 9 states

EAST PRAIRIE: Only minor damage was reported after an earthquake centred in southeast Missouri shook at least nine states. The US Geological Survey says the magnitude 4.0 earthquake was centred near the town of East Prairie,Missouri.

BERLIN: Prosecutors in the northwest German city of Osnabrueck say they’ve charged a 42-year-old man with inciting racial hatred for producing a CD of his songs titled “Adolf Hitler Lives.’’ Spokesman Alexander Retemeyer said Tuesday the suspect,identified as Daniel G. in accordance with German privacy laws,could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Israel to free Palestinian on hunger strike


JERUSALEM: A Palestinian prisoner Tuesday agreed to end a two-month hunger strike after reaching a deal with Israel that will free him in April,the Israeli Justice Ministry said. Under the deal,Khader Adnan,a 33-year-old member of the Islamic Jihad militant group,agreed to resume eating immediately on being granted freedom,the Justice Ministry said.

Nepalese man,72,claims to be shortest

KATMANDU: A 72-year-old man from western Nepal is hoping to prove to Guinness World Records that he’s the world’s shortest man. Chandra Bahadur Dangi claims to be only 22 inches tall. Guinness World Records currently recognises Junrey Balawing of the Philippines,who is 23.5 inches tall,as the shortest man in the world.
