Four children,mother stabbed to death in New York flat

New York: New York City police pressed forward Sunday in investigating the deaths of four children and a woman who were stabbed at a Brooklyn residence,saying a person of interest had been taken into custody. Officers arrived at the scene and found all five victims unconscious and unresponsive,police said. A 1-year-old boy and two girls,ages 7 and 9,were pronounced dead at the residence by emergency responders. A boy,5,and the 37-year-old woman were taken to two Brooklyn hospitals where they were pronounced dead,police said. Authorities were withholding the victims names until family members had been properly notified. AP

Beijing: Days after it used its front page to campaign for the release of its detained reporter,a Chinese newspaper Sunday apologised for seriously damaging the credibility of the media after the journalist confessed that he had defamed a state-run firm in exchange for money. The Guangzhou-based New Express said it failed to verify the stories by Chen Yongzhou,who was detained by police from Hunan province and confessed that he had received money from others for the reports. Doner kebab inventor Kadir Nurman dies

Berlin: Kadir Nurman,the Turkish immigrant largely credited with inventing the popular doner kebab,has died here. He was 80. Nurman was born in Istanbul,Turkey. In 1972,he started selling grilled meat accompanied by salad in a flatbread,having noticed the increasingly fast pace of life for residents in the city,according to the BBC. PTI

90-yr-old man remarries to fulfil dead wifes wish

Dubai: A 90-year-old Saudi man was forced to marry a bride almost 40 years his junior,after his children insisted that he honour their mothers dying wish. The bride,53,was selected by Fatees Al Thaqafis five daughters,who spent three months looking for the right wife for their father,Gulf News reported Sunday. PTI
