Nagpur collapse: Death toll at 15

NAGPUR: The death toll in Monday’s warehouse collapse here has risen to 15 with the recovery of seven more bodies on Friday. Deputy Engineer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) Mahesh Gupta told The Indian Express that two more persons are still left to be found as per the records of names available with the authorities.

11 Nepal leaders let off by Patna court

PATNA: A Patna court on Friday dropped cases against 11 Nepal Maoist leaders after the request of Bihar government. As charges were already framed against Nepal leaders,arrested in 2004 from Patna for anti-India and subversive activities,the withdrawal of cases meant acquittal of charges. Bihar DGP Abhyanand said : “It was done in larger public interest under CrPc provisions”.

TN Bill to hike CM,ministers’ allowance

CHENNAI: A bill to enhance the constituency allowance of Chief Minister,ministers and MLAs from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per month was on Friday introduced in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The bill,tabled by CM Jayalalithaa,also seeks to enhance the pension payable to former members of the Assembly or to the Legislative Council from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.

Skeletons case: CPM MLA gets bail

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to former Left Front minister and CPI-M MLA Susanta Ghosh in connection with a skeletons recovery case. While granting bail,a Bench imposed the condition that Ghosh would not visit West Midnapore district other than his Assembly constituency Garbeta,and that he would have to visit a police station on the last Sunday of every month.

Raj Kanwar passes away at 50

MUMBAI: Bollywood director Raj Kanwar,who launched actors Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra,passed away on Friday due to kidney ailment,in Singapore. The 50-year-old director-producer made memorable films like Deewana,Laadla,Jeet,Daag: The Fire,Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke and Andaaz. His last film was Saadiyaan in 2010,which launched Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv.

AI pilot suspended for failing alcohol test

NEW DELHI: An Air India pilot,who is also a Flight Operations Inspector with civil aviation regulator DGCA,has been suspended from active duty after he tested positive for alcohol. “Captain Sebastian,who was to fly between Chennai to Madurai,has been grounded for three months,” a senior Directorate General of Civil Aviation official said.

Bhojpuri actor Raja Chaudhary arrested

JAIPUR: Bhojpuri actor Raja Chaudhary was arrested on Friday for creating ruckus outside a hospital at Jawahar Lal Nehru road,police said. “Chaudhary was under the influence of alcohol when he created nuisance outside the hospital at around 1.30 am. When guards tried to stop him,he had a scuffle with them,” ACP Malvia Nagar,Rajendra Singh,said.

MUMBAI: In a blow to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena,the Bombay High Court on Friday refused to grant permission to the party to hold a public meeting at Shivaji Park in central Mumbai. MNS had approached the HC seeking permission to use loud speakers at the rally to be held on February 13 at Shivaji Park.

Around four months ago he received an SMS announcing that he has won 1 million dirhams in a millionaire draw. Ahamed quit his 1,300 dirham job. However,he was unable to communicate with the bank,and could not receive the money. until Gulf News brought his story to the attention of National Bonds CEO Qasim Ali Ali. It was only after the Ali’s intervention that Ahamed received the money.
