Bodhgaya blasts: BJP,Cong trade charges

BJP corners Nitish,Congress says BJP trying to communalise politics

After the blasts at Bodhgaya temple on Sunday, while the BJP slammed its former alliance partner JD(U) and the Central government, the Congress hit back asking all non-BJP state governments, including that led by Nitish Kumar,to be cautious of the BJP and accused the saffron party of trying to communalise politics in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections.

“We were told that there were repeated intelligence briefs, including pertaining to those involved in the German Bakery case. The media is repeating that they (perpetrators in German Bakery case) had done a recce of Bodhgaya temple. There were warnings but no precaution was taken. Law and order is a state subject, but it is a lapse in which the state and the Centre will have to share responsibility and accountability,” BJP deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad said

Party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain took a dig at Kumar suggesting that the Chief Minister, who also heads the Home department, was more busy with party’s politics than administration. “After blasts expected that Nitishji wld call meeting of officers to deal with situation. But he held a 3hr JDU meeting to discuss politics,” Hussain tweeted. Hussain commented in another tweet: “Nitishji ko Janta Dal (U) ki badi chinta hai. Janta ki chinta kaun karega?”(Nitish is worried about JD (U). Who is going to worry about the public?)

Similar sentiments were expressed by BJP general secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy. “Law and order in Bihar is now back to the Lalu days,” he said.

With the BJP trying to corner Nitish, the Congress hit back at the saffron party, accusing it of trying to communalise the situation. “Any effort to destabilise the country, destabilise the state and bring about communal disturbance should be fought at all levels. It is not even a month and the BJP feels that the law and order is so bad that they (Nitish government) can’t handle anything. I saw Ravi Shankar Prasad saying that probably German Bakery blasts culprits were doing recce (of the Bodhgaya temple site). This is the kind of politics of hate and communalism in which the BJP specialises in. For god’s sake, please let the investigation be completed and do not communalise each act of terrorism… the BJP and Sangh want to communalise politics in India again in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections,” AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh said.

“The non-BJP ruled states must be careful and Nitish should be more careful,” he added.

Former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav used the opportunity to attack Kumar.

“They will have to take responsibility for this. Let the investigation happen and truth come out and the elements responsible should be thoroughly investigated. The temple was not adequately protected. It is a matter which warrants a probe. The Central government and agencies should look into the matter and find out what report the IB had given and what action had been taken,” Yadav said.

LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan also blamed Nitish for failing to act on intelligence inputs. “The blasts took place even after alerts were given by the Government of India. The responsibility lies with the CM and the state; this has damaged Bihar’s image internationally,” Paswan said.
