While BJP MP Maneka Gandhi is likely to shift from Aonla to Pilibhit in the next Lok Sabha polls, the party is likely to field SP rebel Dharmendra Kumar Kashyap, whom Maneka defeated in 2009,from Aonla,it is learnt. He had lost by 7,654 votes.
It is more or less settled that Manekas son Varun Gandhi, who represents Pilibhit, will shift to Sultanpur.
Kashyap will formally join the BJP at the Swabhiman Rally that will be organised in Deochara village of Aonla constituency on May 1. Partys national president Rajnath Singh and general secretary Varun Gandhi will attend the rally.
Kashyap organised a grand welcome for BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai who visited Bareilly on Wednesday to take stock of preparations for the rally.
Kashyap decided to join the BJP when the Samajwadi Party chose Kunwar Sarvraj Singh as its candidate for the next Lok Sabha election. Singh had contested the 2009 Lok Sabha election from Aonla as BSP candidate and stood third.
However,Kashyap said he was quitting the SP because Mulayam Singh Yadav has failed to fulfil the promise of providing benefits of Scheduled Castes to the Kashyap community. He also said,I am joining the BJP on May 1 and will contest the next Lok Sabha election from Aonla.
Kashyap had won his first Assembly polls from Sunha seat in Bareilly district as a BSP candidate in 2002. Later,he joined the SP in 2003.
