BJP to field candidates in 200 seats
For the first time in Rajasthan, the BJP will field contestants in all 200 constituencies as it does not have any alliances this time. Since 1980,the party always contested the polls in an alliance that limited its own seats. In the 1993 and 1998,BJP contested 196 seats and then in 2003 on 197 seats. In 2008,the party secured 78 of 193 seats it contested.
Congress wary of anti-incumbency
Congress MLAs in Rajasthan, who won the previous election by a margin of less than 1000 votes, are unlikely to get tickets this time, according to party sources. The Congress feels that these candidates are unlikely to be voted back to power as anti-incumbency factor might work against them.
