A day after Yasin Bhatkal was arrested on the India-Nepal border, the BJP Friday slammed the Bihar Police for not interrogating the alleged Indian Mujahideen co-founder. It also accused the Nitish Kumar government of trying to appease Muslims and going soft on terror.
We wonder why Bihar Police did not interrogate Yasin Bhatkal for creating a module in Bihar. Arrests in recent years have given adequate hints of Bhatkals involvement, former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said.
Modi alleged the JD(U) government had been soft in its dealing with terrorism and Naxalism. He said that though there was no case against Bhatkal in Bihar, the state police had enough reasons to file a case against him, especially for his activities in Mithilanchal region. He also alleged that the state government had been trying to hide behind technical reasons for not interrogating Bhatkal.
Those who (JDU) declared Ishrat Jehan as Bihars daughter can also declare Yasin Bhatkal as Bihars damad (as he is married in Samastipur), Modi tweeted.
He said it was strange that the Bihar Police did not seek Bhatkals remand and interrogate him when six other states had queued up for the same.
But Bihar Director General of Police,Abhayanand, countered Modis claim, saying that Bhatkal had indeed been interrogated by Motihari SP Vinay Kumar. As the NIA had warrants against Bhatkal,we handed him over to the agency. There was no case against Bhatkal in Bihar.
JD(U) national spokesperson K C Tyagi called Modis statements irresponsible. As a major Opposition party,we do not expect these kinds of irresponsible statements from their leaders. The Bihar Police have surely interrogated him,but it cannot be brought to the public domain, Tyagi said.
