With government firming up further liberalisation of FDI norms, the BJP on Tuesday reacted cautiously, saying that it would like to see the fine print of the move, but indicated that it may support some of the proposals.

I think,it FDI proposals still needs Cabinet approval. We would like to see the fine print of the finally approved decision. We may agree to some of the proposals for some sectors, but we may also not agree to some sectors, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said in reaction to FDI liberalisation proposals announced by Commerce Minister on Tuesday.

The indication that the BJP was ready to support some of the proposal should provide some comfort to the government given the partys strong objection to opening retail to FDI last year. To the BJPs credit,it has maintained that it was not opposed to FDI in principle even as it opposed FDI in multi-brand retail last year.
