Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced Rs 10 lakh each for the families of soldiers killed in the helicopter crash in Uttarakhand. Meanwhile,two aircraft carrying 316 pilgrims reached Bhopal Thursday. Some 500 pilgrims from the state are reported to be safe in Badrinath. The associations of government employees has announced that they will donate a day’s salary,which amounts to about Rs 60 crore,for relief work in Uttarakhand.
Andhra says 284 of its pilgrims still missing
As many as 284 pilgrims from Andhra Pradesh are reported missing in Uttarakhand. When the rescue started,the state had informed the army about 2,782 pilgrims who were stranded. Of them,1,628 pilgrims returned home on their own while 858 pilgrims were still stranded but were reported to be safe. However,there is no news of the remaining 284. Efforts to locate them at relief and rescue camps have failed so far.
UP official is removed for insensitive remark
The Uttar Pradesh government has removed G Srinivasalu as Special Secretary,Revenue,for his insensitive remark on the death of pilgrims in Uttarakhand. Srinivasalu was briefing reporters Thursday about the fate of pilgrims from UP Geeta Chaturvedi,63,and Madhu,55,have been reported dead so far and he was asked about the total number of deaths. H replied with a smile: It is hard to count those who are alive,how will we count those who have died? The remark was captured on camera and aired on TV.
