Bill for quota in institutes passed

A bill to provide reservation to SCs,STs and OBCs under state seats in central education institutes in tribal areas was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

A bill to provide reservation to SCs,STs and OBCs under state seats in central education institutes in tribal areas was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. The Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) was adopted by voice vote after HRD Minister Kapil Sibal assuaged concerns expressed by members regarding the quota,saying 27 reservation for the OBCs will be fully implemented in central institutions.

Low pass percentage in CTET

THE government on Friday said the results of recent Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) have shown low pass percentage of less than 6.5 per cent among those even with B.Ed qualifications. Informing Rajya Sabha about the status of teachers in the country,HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said it needed to be ensured that the private institutions provided the right quality of education to produce good quality teachers.

7% death above age of 30 due to tobacco

HEALTH Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told the Lok Sabha on Friday that 7% of all deaths in people aged 30 years and above are attributable to tobacco. He was quoting from the WHO Global Report on Tobacco Attributable Mortality (2012) while answering a question on tobacco menace. Of non-communicable diseases,9% of deaths are linked to tobacco with 58% deaths due to trachea,bronchus,lung cancers caused due to tobacco.
