The Centre on Wednesday appointed former Union Law Minister Hans Raj Bhardwaj as the new Governor of Karnataka. Bhardwaj will replace Rameshwar Thakur who has been transferred as Governor of Madhya Pradesh for the remainder of his term in place of Dr Balram Jakhar.
A trusted Gandhi family loyalist,Bhardwaj was not inducted into the Union Cabinet after the UPA returned to power this year. His non-inclusion into the Cabinet had set off speculation about him being accommodated in a gubernatorial position.
Dropped from the Tarun Gogoi-led Government last year, former Assam Finance Minister Devanand Konwar has been appointed as the Bihar Governor. Konwar replaces R L Bhatia whose term expired on Tuesday.
