Bhanwari Devi case accused who fled from custody caught

Almost two weeks after he escaped from custody,the Jodhpur police apprehended Kailash Jhakar,an accused in the Bhanwari Devi murder case,from a village 250 km away from Jodhpur in Churu district.

Jhakar and an accomplice,Trilok Kharda,who fled from Jodhpur on June 14,were found hiding in the hamlet early on Monday morning and were arrested after a brief scuffle with the police.

Jodhpur Commissioner of Police Bhupendra Dak said that the police acted on a tip off that Jhakar was hiding somewhere in Bikaner district. “After questioning accomplices arrested during his escape,we knew that he had not left the state and was hiding somewhere in Bikaner. Two teams have been scouring this district and surrounding areas since the escape,and on Monday we were successful,” Dak said.

Jhakar,a history sheeter and accused of murder,abduction and conspiracy in the case,had staged a daring escape from police custody on June 14 while he was being escorted back to the central jail following a court hearing. Jhakar’s gang members had attacked the escort in a bid to free Jhakar and his gang leader,Bishnaram Bishnoi. However,Bishnoi was arrested on the spot along with another gang member,Hanuman Ram Bishnoi.

So far,26 people have been accused in the escape of which,16 are presently in custody. “We are still on the lookout for the remaining accused. Teams from several police departments were involved in apprehending Jhakar,” Dak said.
