BCCI suspects Gujarat players in other teams were also approached

It is learnt that cricketer from Gujarat was approached by few persons.

With police widening its probe into the spot-fixing scandal that has stunned players and followers of the IPL,authorities suspect that Amit Singh and Jiju Janardanan, among the 14 already under arrest, may not have been the only figures from Gujarat cricket involved in luring other players into the betting network.

Several persons officially connected to cricket in Gujarat could have played middlemen, helping the likes of Amit Singh get in touch with cricketers from the region playing for franchises other than Rajasthan Royals.

“Given Amit and Jiju are from the same state, there is a chance they may have approached other players from the region. There is a chance they may have done so in the last season of IPL too,” a senior BCCI official told The Sunday Express.

It is learnt that a cricketer from the state was approached by a few persons linked to Gujarat cricket during IPL Season 5. They had apparently asked the player for small favours, which he refused. The player reported the incident to an ICC anti-corruption official, but nothing came of it.
