After the conviction of Mirza Himayat Inayat Baig in the German Bakery blast, the state ATS is now hoping to nail another suspect Zabiuddin Ansari alias Zabi alias Abu Jundal in the case.

Ansari,an alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba operative who is also booked along with six others in the German Bakery blast case,is was deported from Saudi Arabia in June 2012. He is also an accused in the Aurangabad RDX haul of 2006 and is being probed for his alleged links to the 26/11 attack.

A senior Anti-Terrorism Squad officer said,“Our next logical step is to get custody of Abu Jundal in the German Bakery blast case.”

Investigation, carried out by the ATS,has revealed close links among the three alleged LeT members — Baig,Ansari and Fayyaz Kagzi. According to anti-terror unit, all three hail from Beed district. It claimed to have evidence like photographs of Baig with these suspects, who are also alleged to be involved in the Aurangabad RDX haul of 2006.

The trio were instrumental in setting up a library that had become a meeting point for youths in the Marathwada belt. The terror operatives allegedly used the library for indoctrinating these youths into the Jihadi ideology.

According to the ATS,Ansari has an MA degree and has also completed an electrician’s course from Industrial Training Institute.

While Kagzi took a degree in Food technology,Baig was an aspirant teacher, who later allegedly went on to become a Maharashtra state commander for the LeT.

Baig did his DEd from Pune in 2006 and later in 2008 he took admission in a BA degree course at the Poona College. Meanwhile,he also tried to get a job in Udgir,Latur and Aurangabad. He also gave the DEd CET examination at Latur.

While the ATS claimed to have arrested him in connection with the German Bakery blast on September 7,he told the court that he was picked up by the ATS from Latur on August 19,2010,where he had gone for getting some information about DEd CET.

According to ATS,Kagzi and Ansari allegedly trained Baig at Colombo,Sri Lanka,in March 2008. They are also alleged to have given Baig a task of recruiting youths.

It is estimated that it was after that training that he started a cyber cafe at Udgir, which allegedly doubled as a meeting point for jihadis.

According to ATS,Baig also held meetings with IM operatives Yasin Bhatkal and Mohsin Choudhary at this cyber cafe, where the German Bakery Blast conspiracy was hatched in January 2010.
