Even as scores of wounded people are pouring into city hospitals with no let-up in violence across Kashmir, the blood banks arent facing any crisis. Youths are coming forward in large numbers to donate blood for the patients.
Only on Monday,we received 100 pints of blood from donors, says Medical Superintendent,Shri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital,Dr Wasim Qureshi.
We have sufficient blood in our blood bank.
At the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS),Valleys lone tertiary care hospital, the blood bank has enough stock for 700 patients. Our blood bank is filled. We cant store any more blood here, says Dr Amin Tabish,Medical Superintendent of the hospital. Hundreds of volunteers are coming for blood donation. We have taken down their names and addresses, and will contact them if we need blood.
In Srinagar, people have not only set up blood donation camps but also community kitchens close to hospitals to feed the patients and their attendants.
At Lal Mandi,a group of youth moved door-to-door,seeking money, rice and food items for community kitchens. Since the crisis is everybodys concern, people are volunteering for the job and also donating money and food items, said Mudasir Ahmad,a volunteer.
