The BJP foundation day function here was marked by senior leaders projecting Narendra Modi as NDA’s candidate for PM,saying the country needed a powerful leader to bring change.

They also attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent statement that “one person can’t make change”,giving examples of leaders who brought about change almost single-handedly.

Senior leader Shatrughan Sinha started his speech with “Om NaMo SuMo”,a reference to Modi and Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and launched a scathing attack on Rahul. “How can Rahul say one individual can’t make a difference? We have leaders like Mahatma Gandhi,Subhash Chandra Bose and Jai Prakash Narayan who brought about great changes almost single-handedly.”

The Patna Sahib MP said the BJP was the only alternative of Congress. “We have powerful leaders. We have NaMo and SuMo.”

Sushil Modi said,“In the implementation of 20-point programme, five top-performing states were non-Congress states. Gujarat was on top of chart. The Centre was so embarrassed with poor performance of Congress-ruled states that it did not release the list.”

He said he had known Narendra Modi for a long time and had it not been for good performance,he would not have become chief minister for the third time.

He said coalition was about “equal partners” and BJP,on its combined strength with partner JD-U,would win all 40 Bihar seats and help in ousting the UPA.

Newly appointed BJP vice president C P Thakur,a staunch Narendra Modi supporter, said,“It has been enough of a weak PM. The country needs a strong PM.”
