Assams most-wanted druglord and murder accused Samsul Haque Talukdar popularly known as Pakhi Miyan was arrested on Sunday from Durgapur in West Bengal. Miyan had escaped from police custody in December last year.
Also the prime accused in the sensational murder of Revenue Intelligence official Tarun Dutta in Guwahati on September 12,2006,Miyan was arrested by the Assam Police with the help of the West Bengal Polices Special Task Force (STF). He will be produced in a West Bengal court on Monday and then flown to Guwahati.
Confirming his arrest,IGP,Assam Police,Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said a team of policemen from the state was on the druglords trail for quite some time.
The STF of West Bengal Police gave us massive support in nabbing Pakhi Miyan, Mahanta told The Indian Express.
Miyan was earlier arrested in April 2007 in Kolkata by the West Bengal Police and brought to Assam in connection with numerous criminal cases including the Tarun Dutta murder.
Also accused in several cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act,he managed to escape on December 23 last year after being admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital here by drugging two constables on duty.
Miyan,who is also implicated in the murder of Muslimuddin Ahmed,a journalist working for Asomiya Pratidin,a Guwahati-based Assamese newspaper,is also one of the accused in the murder of Habib Ali,a local Asom Gana Parishad leader in Nagaon district.
A person with strong political connections,Pakhi Miyan had unsuccessfully contested the last Assembly election from Jamunamukh constituency in Nagaon district in Assam on an NCP ticket in 2006.
