Ashok Khemka on leave, govt ‘transfers’ his charge
My name is nowhere in the list of officers deputed on election duty as per the ECI's web site.
The Haryana government on Tuesday gave IAS officer Ashok Khemkas job to another officer, apparently after assuming that Khemka was on election duty outside the state.
Khemka, however,is only in the reserve list for election duty. Seemingly realising its mistake, the government on Wednesday said the charge is not transferred.
Khemka returned from leave Wednesday to resume work as secretary,Archives,a responsibility that had been given to fellow IAS officer Pradeep Kasni on Tuesday.
The government had issued orders giving additional charge to six IAS officers to replace colleagues deputed for elections. Kasni, secretary,Administrative Reforms Department, received additional charge as secretary,Archives Department and director-general,Archives.
There had been a tragedy in my family and I had to leave Chandigarh. I was on leave and returned today. My name is nowhere in the list of officers deputed on election duty as per the ECIs web site. Also,I have received no letter saying I have been deputed on election duty. I informed Mr Kasni about the same this morning when he called me, Khemka said.
Kasni said,I called up Mr Khemka this morning and learnt that he was not deputed on election duty. He told me that he was away on leave and had come back today. Thus, there was no point in going to his office and taking over. I shall be communicating it to the state government….
Late Wednesday evening,Haryana chief secretary P K Chaudhery said,The order of transferring the charge was subject to the officer going on election duty. If the officer has not gone on election duty, the charge is not transferred. It is as simple as that.
