At least 10 of the 20 are crorepatis,one family even owns a Jeanneau yacht. Meet some of the Aam Aadmi Partys chosen ones.
The 20 AAP candidates,who have filed nomination papers so far,have declared assets which suggest that their professions are as diverse as their incomes.
The affidavits they have handed in are telling. Shazia Ilmi,AAP candidate from RK Puram,has declared that her husband,Sajid Siraj Malik,has a Mercedes Benz and a Jeanneau yacht. But there are others like Ashok Kumar,the candidate from Ambedkar Nagar,who has taken a bank loan to buy a Honda scooter.
Of the 20 candidates,13 have cars,two have two-wheelers and five own no mode of transport.
There is also diversity in land owned by the candidates. Baljit Singh Mann,the Narela candidate,owns agricultural land worth Rs 8.41 crore while Ballimaran candidate Farhana Anjum has residential and commercial land worth Rs 3.44 crore.
Some also own land outside the state Narender Singh Sejwal Mehrauli owns 8.69 acres in Rajnandgaon,Chhattisgarh. Five of the 20 candidates have declared that they own no land or property.
Ten candidates have assets upward of Rs 1 crore. Shazia Ilmi and her spouse have declared assets over Rs 30 crore. Deshraj Raghav of Uttam Nagar has assets upward of
Rs 12 crore.
But there are also candidates such as Dharmender Singh of Seemapuri. He has declared silver worth Rs 800 and Rs 20,000 cash. Three candidates have declared assets less than Rs 5 lakh.
With the AAP targeting the Jal Board and the power discoms,two candidates have declared dues against the two agencies. Narender Singh Sejwal Mehrauli said: I have over Rs 1 lakh of electricity dues. This is because of the partys protests against unfair bills. The connection at my home has been cut several times. Similarly,Shakeel Anjum of Matia Mahal has Rs 62,000 water dues.
The professions of candidates vary of the 20,two are advocates,one owns a leather manufacturing unit,one is a farmer and at least ten are businessman.
Gopal Rai,member of the AAP core group,has declared that there is a pending criminal case against his name at Hasanganj,Lucknow district. The case dates back to 1997 with charges of rioting,armed with a deadly weapon and mischief.
