Exactly a year ago,Tonga Rina (32),associate editor with Arunachal Times,was battling for life after she was shot from a close range by some unidentified miscreants just as she was stepping into her office in Itanagar. Now,having recovered,and currently engaged in a fellowship abroad,the Arunachali journalist has been named for the Prize for the Freedom and Future of the Media,2013,instituted by Media Foundation,a Leipzig-based organisation.
Four other journalists,Jörg Armbruster,Martin Durm,Brigitte Alfter and Ides Debruyne all Germans have been also selected for the award that carries 30,000 Euros. The award will be given in Leipzig in October.
Rina was shot on the evening of July 15 last year just as she was walking into her newspaper office. She had to undergo several critical surgeries in Itanagar and Guwahati. Rina had last year also won the Laadli Media Award 2011-12 for Gender Sensitivity.
